Spring is finally here and Bernardo and I are excited to get back on stage! We’ve got two gigs coming up in beautiful Florence, Italy. We are looking forward to debuting new material from our forthcoming album, Tide and Stars, and Berna will be trying out some new harmonies & instrumentation — now we’ve got guitar, dobro, and mandolin in our set!

May 6, 2016: Michael Collins Signoria, 10pm

Located in historic Piazza Signoria in Florence, the Michael Collins pub’s underground cantina will bring you back in time. Located within an imposing palazzo with views of the Uffizi Gallery & Palazzo Vecchio (home to the famous Salone del Cinquecento, the seat of Florentine government, as well as stunning de’ Medici apartments), this promises to be an intimate show in an unusual setting. Join us, amici Italiani!

May 18, 2016: Circolo Arci il Progresso, 10pm

On the other side of town, this community-run events center and concert hall has housed concerts by many local and international artists. We’ll be performing an acoustic concert on this beautiful stage, beneath old wooden beams and suspended above a marble floor. This concert is part of Bob Dylan Week, a weeklong celebration of the famous troubadour. Throughout Florence, there will be poetry readings, art installations, concerts, and more – and we’re thrilled to be part of the lineup! We’ll be paying homage to Dylan along with other links in the songwriter chain, such as Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, and more.

Back in Italy! I’m excited to return to the continent and kick things off with a concert at Ex Cinema Aurora, an independent folk venue in Livorno, Italy. As its name indicates, this abandoned cinema has been recently converted to a funky concert space. Relics of old Hollywood, including enormous old cameras, stage lights, and film reels dot the walls. And the acoustics are incredible!

I’ll be joined by my husband, producer, and killer guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Bernardo Baglioni as we perform an intimate, all-original set. We are looking forward to debuting some brand new music — some of which I *just* finished on the plane on my way to Europe! — that will make its way onto my 2016 album, Tide & Stars. Free entry. Spero di vedervi, amici italiani – mi mancate, e non vedo l’ora di condividere qualche pezzo nuovo con voi!

On Saturday, 12/12, I’m hitting a brand new venue (for me!), the Cat in the Cradle Coffeehouse in Byfield, MA! I will be splitting the bill with Boston folkie Lenny Solomon, who over a 50+ year career has recorded several albums and has supported such legends as Bonnie Raitt, Chris Smither, and Spider John. Drawing on similar influences & traditions, Lenny’s and my songwriting and performance styles are distinctly different from one another, yet complementary. This promises to be a great, dynamic show of original music — don’t miss it!

Green Mountain Bound: Vermont Shows!

VT music fest

Next weekend, Marina & Bernardo head up north to the beautiful green mountains of Vermont for two shows! The first is the Vermont Music Fest on August 8, held on the rolling farmland of Lareau Farm in Waitsfield, VT. Featuring original acts from across New England on two stages, as well as games, art, and locally-sourced food and drink, this festival promises to be a full day of fun for the whole family. Click here to visit their website and learn more.

Next up is an intimate house concert in nearby Morrisville, just outside of Stowe, VT, on August 9. “Weather permitting, we’ll play outside on the hillside, surrounded by those rolling hills,” Marina says. “We’re excited to go from a festival stage to the intimacy of a house concert the next day, and hope you’ll join us!” If you’re in the area and would like to join in the fun, send Marina an email for more details.

Jonathan Edwards

Marina is truly honored to announce that she and Bernardo will be traveling north to beautiful Wolfeboro, New Hampshire to support the legendary Jonathan Edwards in concert on Saturday, July 25! Holy geez!

Over 40 years and 15 albums, Edwards has touched countless souls with his honest, insightful, and spirited songs & performances. A passionate performer with a voice that only sweetens with age, and a witty and sharply observant writer, Edwards puts on a uniquely entertaining and inspiring show.

Marina & Berna will be opening for Jonathan with a brief, original, acoustic set on the gorgeous main stage at the Great Waters Music Festival on Saturday, July 25, at 7:30pm. Tickets range from $12-$30; click here to visit the Great Waters site where you’ll find a full calendar, directions, ticket information, and more.

Opening for Ellis Paul!

It’s quite an honor to share the stage with one of today’s folk greats — and I am thrilled to be doing just that this weekend! On Saturday, 12/6, Bernardo and I are headed down to Puck Live in Doylestown, Pennsylvania where we will be opening for renowned songwriter and storyteller, Ellis Paul. On tour with his new album Chasing Beauty, Ellis has been on the road for nearly 25 years now, and has produced almost as many albums.

“Despite his success and sense of history, Mr. Paul remains an artist with his eye on the future and an interest in discovering the transformative potential in his music.”

Tickets are $20 advance, and $25 at the door. Please visit PuckLive.com for more details, including directions, set times, and ticket reservations.

Live Review: Marina Evans & Hillary Reynolds at Braintree Folk

patriotledger_logo

Opening act Marina Evans and headliner Hillary Reynolds and her band received an excellent review of their sold out concert at Braintree Folk on November 8, by music critic Jay Miller at the Patriot Ledger! An excerpt:

Rockport’s Marina Evans opened with a 45-minute set of her own tunes, and she managed to get a really warm and distinctive sound out of her acoustic guitar. Evans often utilized a wide dynamic range with her high-alto voice, going from whispery to wailing to good effect.¬† Her “Not Gonna Wait” injected some starkly poignant soul into the mix, while “California” was a wistful look back. Who wouldn’t like her “anti-social media” tune “Little Boxes,” with its gentle chiding of some of the more obsessed among us. Evans also has a nice swinging tempo to most of her tunes, and “How Many Miles” was an especially toe-tapping delight. And there was an undeniable beauty to her gentle, almost crystalline ballad “One Way or Another,” where her voice and guitar were superbly in synch.

Saturday, November 8: Marina and Bernardo will be performing in acoustic duo in support of the incredible Hillary Reynolds Band at All Souls Parish Hall, hosted by Braintree Folk!

The Hillary Reynolds Band “invites listeners into a transcendent folk experience. The quintet charms with campfire congeniality, classic songs, and an astounding soulful and technical grasp of Americana. After four years, the band has risen from coffeehouse darlings to sharing stages with Norah Jones and performing at festivals in front of thousands.”

Needless to say, Marina and Bernardo are thrilled to support such talent — don’t miss this incredible show of original music!
