Exciting news: digital music retailer Bandcamp, the site/service through which I (and many, many independent artists!) share and sell digital music downloads, is donating 100% of its profits from digital music sales today to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)!

AND SO AM I!

In exchange for digital distribution service, Bandcamp takes a 15% cut of all digital music sales conducted through its site. Today, I am honored to join Bandcamp in their effort to support immigrants, upon whose backs this great country was built.

Ethan Diamond, Bandcamp’s founder, writes:

“Like 98% of U.S. citizens (including the President), I am the descendant of immigrants—my great-grandparents came to America from Russia and Lithuania as teenagers and worked in sweatshops until they were able to afford to bring the rest of their families over. Most everyone you speak to in this country has a similar story to tell, because we are, in fact, a nation of immigrants, bound together by a shared belief in justice, equality, and the freedom to pursue a better life. In this context, last week’s Executive Order barring immigrants and refugees from seven Middle Eastern countries from entering the United States is not simply immoral, it violates the very spirit and foundation of America.”

Click here to visit my Bandcamp site, where you can listen & purchase my music (and discover more independent music & artists!). For today’s sales, I too will donate 100% of my earnings to the ACLU!*

*Note on song “Color Line (Old Man Trump)”: My profits from this song have already been promised to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, but Bandcamp will still donate 100% of their proceeds for sale of this track to the ACLU. For all other songs and albums sold today, I will donate 100% of my profits to the ACLU.

Homeward Bound: Stateside Summer Shows

Marina & Berna in VT 2015

It’s that time of year again – when I fly across the Atlantic from Italy to Cape Ann, Massachusetts, only to hit the ground running (& singing!) for a summer tour across New England. And I couldn’t be more excited!

This summer, it’s quite the mix: solo acoustic shows, concerts in duo with my musical partner & killer slide guitarist Bernardo Baglioni, and performances fronting the incredible Compaq Big Band. Everything from house concerts (in living rooms, recording studios, and one on the stunning shores of Lake Winnipesaukee!) to museums, from the decks of one of Gloucester’s historic schooners to the hallowed halls of aged New England churches — there’s a concert for everyone. Click here to see the full calendar!

I’m also looking forward to a benefit concert for the Schooner Adventure, “the last of the Gloucestermen,” a historic ship that is a living testament to our rich maritime history (August 12). I’ll be performing in acoustic duo with Bernardo aboard the ship as she’s docked in her beautiful home port of Gloucester, MA. Come join us for a sunset concert beneath the spars!

More concerts are being added all the time, so stay tuned — click here to view the full concert calendar, or follow me on Facebook or Instagram for up-to-the-minute news. Many thanks all — looking forward to seeing you (and singing to you!) along the road!

On the Road: ME, CT, NYC!

This week, I’m so excited to be hitting the road again in acoustic duo with Bernardo. In the coming days we’ll hit Maine, Connecticut, and New York City – and on Saturday, we’ll be opening for none other than incredible troubadour, artist, and author Ellis Paul! Check the list below for dates & details. Hope to see some old & new faces along the way!

On Saturday, 12/12, I’m hitting a brand new venue (for me!), the Cat in the Cradle Coffeehouse in Byfield, MA! I will be splitting the bill with Boston folkie Lenny Solomon, who over a 50+ year career has recorded several albums and has supported such legends as Bonnie Raitt, Chris Smither, and Spider John. Drawing on similar influences & traditions, Lenny’s and my songwriting and performance styles are distinctly different from one another, yet complementary. This promises to be a great, dynamic show of original music — don’t miss it!

Concert & Sail Aboard the Schooner Adventure!

schooner adventure

Nearly one year after their wedding on her decks, Marina & Bernardo are thrilled to return aboard the historic Schooner Adventure to perform an intimate, sunset concert as she cruises around beautiful Gloucester harbor!

The concert will be held on Sunday, August 23 on a late afternoon cruise, from 3-6pm. Tickets are $60 for non-members, and $45 for members; click here to visit the Adventure’s site to learn more & reserve your tickets. This is a rare opportunity to hear local, original music aboard one of the country’s last surviving fishing schooners!

Called “the last of the Gloucestermen,” Adventure is the last remaining fishing schooner built in Essex, MA that features the unique, blunt bow of a working ship adapted to navigating a crowded harbor. After a 20+ year and multi-million dollar renovation, 2015 marks the first summer that Adventure has sailed in decades — a truly momentous moment, and a major feat for the non-profit organization dedicated to the ship’s restoration and upkeep.

Come celebrate Gloucester’s heritage with a cruise aboard the historic Adventure, accompanied by original music by two of the island’s acclaimed young musicians. Come “see how she scoons”!

Come Together in Song: Benefit For The Grace Center

Grace Center poster

In recent years, the Cape Ann Clergy Association realized that there was an ever-increasing number of requests to provide care, support, and resources to the homeless on Cape Ann. Following a needs assessment study in 2011, which identified the distinct need for a safe day space for Cape Ann’s homeless, the group formed the Grace Center, a fully staffed day resource center that moves from church to church in and around Gloucester, MA.

Marina became aware of the Grace Center just this past year, and was impressed with the generosity and hard work the group has put forth to help those less fortunate in our community. Theirs is a valuable mission, and (unfortunately) reflects a growing problem Cape Ann faces in supporting an increasing homeless population.

Marina came up with the idea to “come together in song” in support of this important cause. Together with her husband Bernardo Baglioni, as well as a special guest appearance by Gloucester police Chief Campanello, she put on an intimate acoustic performance in one of Gloucester’s beautiful churches. All proceeds from ticket sales were donated to the Grace Center, and Marina is proud (and pleasantly surprised!) to have raised over $1,000 in donations to the organization.

“It’s an honor to lend my music to a cause like this, and to support our community the best way I know how — in song,” Marina says. “I have received so much support from my hometown over the years, and I love this place through and through. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to give back!”

Jonathan Edwards

Marina is truly honored to announce that she and Bernardo will be traveling north to beautiful Wolfeboro, New Hampshire to support the legendary Jonathan Edwards in concert on Saturday, July 25! Holy geez!

Over 40 years and 15 albums, Edwards has touched countless souls with his honest, insightful, and spirited songs & performances. A passionate performer with a voice that only sweetens with age, and a witty and sharply observant writer, Edwards puts on a uniquely entertaining and inspiring show.

Marina & Berna will be opening for Jonathan with a brief, original, acoustic set on the gorgeous main stage at the Great Waters Music Festival on Saturday, July 25, at 7:30pm. Tickets range from $12-$30; click here to visit the Great Waters site where you’ll find a full calendar, directions, ticket information, and more.

Songs for Nepal: Online Benefit Concert LIVE from Italy!

Marina & Berna event cover photo piano

On Thursday, May 14 at 6pm EST, Marina will be performing LIVE from Italy in duo with Bernardo Baglioni in an online stream through the website Concert Window. All you need is an internet connection to join them in their living room in Florence, Italy for this intimate concert! You can interact with Marina & Berna live during the show… and you will be among the first to hear some new songs!

Click here to stream the concert live on Concert Window!

All proceeds from this concert (ticket donations & “tips”) will be donated to the American Red Cross’ disaster relief fund for victims of the devastating Nepal earthquake. Concert goers can give as much (or as little) as they like — there is no minimum ticket price to “attend” the show. (Note: this is NOT a generic donation to the American Red Cross — our collective donation will go to a fund specifically dedicated to victims of the earthquake in Nepal.)

Click the link above to join in on the fun, to say hello, sing along, and to give what you can. Music = Community, so let’s join together in song to help those in need. <3
