New release: “Afterglow”!

The third single off Tide & Stars is here!

A song from the road, Afterglow paints a picture of our troubadour’s life together – both its beauty & uncertainty – and also gives the new album its name:

We’ll set our course by tide and stars
No map to draw or follow
With one voice and two guitars
We’ll sing our tomorrow

Hope this track kicks off your weekend (and your spring) right – and if the spirit moves you, please share!

NEW MUSIC: “Sunday Morning”

Marina & Berna - Sunday Morning

It’s Friday, spring has arrived (…somewhere, I’m sure), and apparently, Mercury is in retrograde. So, what better time to release an angsty single number two off Tide & Stars?!

Click below to check out my latest release, “Sunday Morning”!

Berna and I are VERY proud of how this track turned out, and hope you dig it. As ever, we recorded this one on two continents (the scattershot approach seems to be working for us), and we want to extend a grazie mille to everyone involved, from Boston to Firenze. Click here (or above) to purchase, download, and share the track.

New Single Out Now!

Finalmente! I am so excited to share the debut single Middle of the Ocean off my forthcoming album Tide & Stars! Here’s a little sneak peek of the music video:

And here you can listen to / download the full track:

Telling a familiar story of two lovers separated by the sea (… guess who?), this song was fittingly recorded on both sides of the Atlantic – from Cape Ann, Massachusetts to Florence, Italy – and was produced by Bernardo Baglioni (who also features on guitar, bass, mandolin, and backup vocals… phew!). The song’s lonely protagonist finds solace in the horizon, knowing her love is looking back at her from some distant shore. Middle of the Ocean pays homage to love’s indomitable spirit… so what better time to release it than Valentine’s Day?

Click here for lyrics, credits, etc. Love to all & grazie mille to everyone who contributed!

Opening for Kate Taylor at the Regent!

BIG NEWS! I am thrilled to be supporting none other than Sister Kate Taylor this November at the beautiful Regent Theater in Arlington, MA! Kate Taylor’s “Sister Kate Revisited” tour resurrects the singer/songwriter’s debut album, released back in 1971. Sharing a velvet voice and penchant for folk music with her brothers James and Livingston, Sister Kate is back on the scene after a long hiatus, and is not to be missed.

Bernardo and I are honored to kick off the concert, on November 8th, with an acoustic opening set of my songs. Join us for a night of original music by two songstresses in one of the Boston area’s premier theaters! Click here for tickets and more info.

Supporting Will Dailey!

marina and will dailey event cover photo

I am reeeeeeallly looking forward to this show… Berna and I will be opening for none other than Will Dailey at the Riverwalk Music Cafe in Nashua, NH on Sunday, October 1!

If you haven’t heard of Will, you’re missing out! An incredible singer/songwriter/performer who’s toured internationally to wide acclaim, his sound and songs are not to be missed. A little bit about him:

Will Dailey is an acclaimed independent recording and performing artist. His sound has been described as having a rich vintage vibe, while having a firm appreciation of AM rock, pop and big hooks – leading famed rock journalist Dan Aquilante to call him “the real deal”. Dailey’s latest album, National Throat, has been met with stellar reviews, over 8 million spins on Spotify, top 20 on Billboard Heat Seeker chart and won Album of the Year in the Boston Music Awards, New England Music Awards and Improper Bostonian Magazine.

Summer shows!

Marina & Berna in VT 2015

Hello, hello! I write from a glowing screen in an old stone house in the hills of Chianti, the dark green Persian blinds drawn tight against the summer swelter outside. The wheat sways and glows gold, spilling down the hillside to the well in the valley below. Summer is here, the cicadas are singing, the jasmine is blooming… and I am booking, booking, booking!

After another few weeks in this blissful place, Berna and I will hop a plane and head back to salty New England, guitars in hand, where my trusty steed (… Honda) awaits. The trunk is already packed: tent, fishing pole, amps, CDs. We’ll hit the ground running — as usual — with shows booked in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and New York City (and more on the way). We’ll be stretching out some new tunes — including one in Italian (!) — off my forthcoming album Tide & Stars. And we would LOVE to see & sing to you. It’s been too long!

Click here to view upcoming gigs on the books. I’m adding more shows all the time, though, so check back often if you don’t find one in your area — or follow me (Facebook) (Instagram) to stay up to date! Thanks team… and see you SOON!

New Release: “Hard Drive” with the Compaq Big Band

marina with compaq big band_2016

I am so excited to share a brand new EP, “Hard Drive,” recorded with the fabulous Compaq Big Band. Over the past several years, it’s been an honor to share the stage with this killer band… and as a vocalist, I must say that performing the songs of the great American Songbook has proven a welcome challenge and an evergreen inspiration. This music — and this band — is the REAL deal. Nothin’ like some Hoagy Carmichael and Peggy Lee to keep a girl honest…!

Opening for Dar Williams at The Cabot – 3/17!

DarWilliamsFeature

Exciting news! Marina is honored to be supporting none other than Dar Williams at the beautiful Cabot Theater in Beverly, MA on March 17!

One of the most lauded singer-songwriters of her generation, Dar Williams has been captivating audiences with her sheer elegance and honesty in her folk-pop songwriting since the early ’90s. Williams’ growth as an individual over her almost three-decade-long career has gone hand-in-hand with her evolution as an artist. She has toured with such distinguished artists as Joan Baez, Patty Griffin, Ani DiFranco, and Shawn Colvin, and is a regular contributor to the Huffington Post‘s Green Blog. A dedicated environmentalist, Williams toured throughout the northeast visiting children’s camps and planting bee gardens in summer 2011.

Marina has long been a fan of Dar’s, first having seen her 15+ years ago (!) at a solo acoustic show. Dar’s exuberant stage presence and insightful, funny, and honest songwriting have continued to inspire Marina as her own performance and writing career has developed.

This promises to be a memorable night of original music performed by one of the biggest names in American folk, supported by a local rising star. Don’t miss it! Click here for tickets and event details.
