Great news, everybody: an instrumental version of Marina’s song “California” has been selected to air between radio shows on Boston’s National Public Radio (NPR) station, WGBH! Tune in to 89.7 FM or click here to stream online, and keep your ears open for a familiar tune.

Some of you may have noticed when listening to NPR (in Boston, New England, or anywhere across the country) that there is a brief musical interlude that plays as one show finishes and before another begins. These interludes are always instrumental. This is where you will be hearing “California”!

Years ago, when she was just at the beginning of her songwriting career (with only a few songs under her belt), Marina learned of music placement on NPR from one of her music professors. He said submitting well-crafted, original, instrumental tracks to NPR was a great way to gain exposure for your music, and perhaps to earn a royalty or two. At the time this seemed like such a long shot that it slipped away into the back corner of Marina’s mind — only to be resurrected 7 years later, when a representative from WGBH contacted her and requested instrumental tracks for several of her songs! So here we are.

A huge THANK YOU goes out to Unbound co-producer, multi-instrumentalist, and Marina’s husband & musical partner Bernardo Baglioni, as well as to Marina’s Italian band who recorded the album. You’re on the U.S. airwaves, fellas!

Tune in and keep your ears peeled — and see if you can recognize “California” without Marina’s lead vocals!
